Brussels Airport Welcomes Over 2.17 Million Passengers in June, Up 4% Year-on-Year

in Business, Travel

Brussels Airport handled more than 2.17 million passengers in June 2025, registering a 4% year-on-year increase despite major disruptions due to a national trade union strike that brought all departures to a halt on June 25.

The resilience in traffic comes as the airport exceeded 11.2 million passengers during the first half of the year, a figure impacted by five nationwide strike actions since January, which resulted in more than 230,000 flight cancellations.

Transfer passengers represented approximately 15% of departures, with Africa and North America among the main long-haul markets. Spain, Italy, and Greece remained top destinations, reflecting strong demand for southern European leisure travel. The airport maintained high load factors, averaging 147 passengers per flight.

Aircraft movements rose 5%, with cargo movements up by 11%.

Cargo volumes surged 18% year-on-year in June to reach 63,200 tonnes, fuelled by significant increases in flown cargo, full freighter activity, and integrator services.

Brussels Airport anticipates over 5.1 million passengers for July and August, a further 5% rise, positioning the hub for record summer traffic despite recent operational challenges.
